Fair City viewers were shocked last night when Karen was found unconscious and bleeding, with the word 'slut' scrawled in lipstick on fridge.

Wayne walks in on the horrific scene and is unsure if Karen, played by Kate Gilmore, is alive or dead.

"I was really shocked when I read the scripts for the episodes this week," said Victor Burke, who plays Wayne.

"The cast and crew have pulled out all the stops to create what we hope will be a great storyline for our audience.

"Wayne reels when he discovers Karen at home in his kitchen lying on the floor with a bloody wound.

"When he finds Karen injured in his and Orla's kitchen he tries to help her, but the way that events unfold will have far-reaching effects for the Carrigstown community at large", he told Independent.ie.

Karen has caused a lot of controversy among Carrigstown residents lately after flirting with and kissing several married men after being turned down by Sean, played by Ryan Andrews.

She kissed Wayne, played by Victor Burke and then flirted with him again in the Station Bar in front of angry wife Orla.

And she also angered Decco's wife Kerri-Ann (Jenny Dixon) by kissing him, causing a furious Kerri-Ann to throw a drink over her.

Decco and Kerri-Ann's relationship is left hanging in the balance as he is still angry with Kerri-Ann for her affair with old flame Mondo.

On hearing of her behaviour in the Station Bar, Karen's mother Aoife begins to worry about her.

Aoife, played by Lesley Conroy and Carol, played by Aisling O'Neill, end up having a dust-up which leaves Carol with a cut on her face.

A furious Carol then hunts down Robbie and tells him Karen is not all she seems.

The next Fair City episode airs tonight on RTE One at 8pm.
